Sori\u0161ka planina<\/strong> hosted round four of Unior Downhill Cup<\/strong>. In first three editions this event was lucky with weather but things got a bit more complicated this time. It rained all Saturday and rain continued overnight after practice day. On race day the winds picked up so the chairlift did not run until noon. That is when the practice started, followed by semi-final at 2 and final at 4pm.<\/p>\n

The 1650m track with 280m drop dried nicely in windy conditions and only remained wet in some spots for the final. But slippery roots caused a number of crashes in both runs.<\/p>\n

Semi-final<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Miran Vauh<\/strong> (Blackthorn) was fastest in the semi-final run of the united category of elite men and junior men, the category which raced for UCI Class 2 points. In absence of series leader Jure \u017dabjek<\/strong> (Unior Tools Team) \u2013 who is already in Australia for World Championships with Monika Hrastnik<\/strong> \u2013 Miri also hoped to take the lead in the series before the final in Maribor on September 23rd<\/sup>. Last year\u2019s winner, Vauh\u2019s teammate Luka Berginc<\/strong> followed in second, and Miha Ivan\u010di\u010d<\/strong> (\u0160KTD Av\u010de) in third place.<\/p>\n

Final<\/strong><\/h3>\n

When the fastest five from semi-final remained on track and at the start, the junior National champion Rudi Pintar<\/strong> (Sinter Brakes Team), local rider from the nearby village of Sorica, was occupying the hot seat. This means he had already won the duel with Matic Kokelj<\/strong> (Wolf Racing Team), who remains the series leader in junior category.<\/p>\n

Jan Cimperman<\/strong> (MTB Trbovlje) and \u017diga Pandur<\/strong> (Unior Tools Team) finished behind Pintar, then Ivan\u010di\u010d as well. Only the incredible Berginc was faster by 2.23. Vauh was the last one on the track but crashed and finished way down the field, scoring no series points.<\/p>\n

20-year old Luka Berginc <\/strong>now has two elite wins, both at DH Sorica, both on his 2013 bike with 26 inch wheels which he got from his brother Kevin: \u201cI trained hard for the past two months and after finishing as 5th<\/sup> and 6th<\/sup> Slovenian at Lo\u0161inj and Cerkno here we are. I like the sprinting part here and the terrain reminds me of my home trails because of all the roots. Now I\u2019m just waiting for \u017dabjek to come here (laughs)\u2026 It was dry for the final, I was on dry conditions tyres, and only some roots were still slippery. I want to race in European and World Cup more seriously next year.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rudi Pintar<\/strong>, the 18-year old home hero, scored his best series result with second overall: \u201cYesterday I did 6 or 7 runs with \u017diga (Pandur). The grip was good on washed terrain. But today the track was a bi**h when drying. I crashed in the semi-final, then chose a faster dry conditions tyre for rear for the final. It went okay with no major mistakes. The track is even more physical in the wet. I have mixed emotions \u2013 I wish I was in Australia for the Worlds but it was a good day at home.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pintar won the U19 in front of Kokelj and Bla\u017e Gerbec (\u0160KTD Av\u010de) took third. Marko Niemiz (Sinter Brakes Team) won the U17 once again in front of \u017dak Gomil\u0161\u010dek and Ga\u0161per Jure\u010di\u010d (both Rajd Funsports). Erazem Kos (Supersnurf) won in U15 where Tilen Hor\u017een (Rajd Funsports) was second and Alja\u017e Ipavec (\u0160KTD Av\u010de) third. Ga\u0161per Jereb (Av\u010de) won in masters category in front of teammate Emanuel Humar and Bo\u0161tjan Volf (Wolf RT) and Andreas Vidovi\u010d (Ganesha Team) in amateur in front of Urban Napotnik (KD Lignit) and teammate Nino Kokelj.<\/p>\n

There were no women at the start this weekend.<\/p>\n

88 riders from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Italy and Slovenia picked up the number plates this weekend.<\/p>\n

Round five, the final of Unior DH Cup, follows on September 22nd<\/sup> and 23rd<\/sup>, the Visit Pohorje Downhill in Maribor<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
